Summer School CIP Reading Club

This summer, we invite you to join us in diving deep into LA City’s proposed Capital Investment Program (CIP)! Why does this matter now? In August, the public gets to weigh in on the CIP — a comprehensive plan for building and investing in LA’s streets, sidewalks, parks, public spaces and more. We want to show up to that process informed and ready to speak up for a plan that truly works for Angelenos.

In each session, we’ll discuss:

  • What did you read? (Summary/Comprehension)

  • What questions came up for you? (Clarifications/Naming gaps and implications)

Check out the reading schedule below. You’re invited to join one or all these sessions. Don’t feel like you need to read every line - bounce around and pull out what feels interesting to you. No experience needed! To join us, sign up here.

About Our Work

In October 2024, Mayor Karen Bass put forth Executive Directive #9 (ED #9), setting the stage for the City of LA to develop its first-ever Capital Investment Program (CIP) -- a comprehensive plan for building and investing in LA’s streets, sidewalks, parks, and public spaces in ways that would equitably serve communities across the city.

The CIP represents an opportunity to efficiently coordinate our City’s departments to revitalize Los Angeles’s aging infrastructure and invest in long-term projects for the millions of Angelenos who experience it on a daily basis. This is also a first step towards greater transparency, as the CIP will give the public an opportunity to see exactly how tax dollars are being spent and infrastructure projects are prioritized.

The purpose of the CIP working group is to:

  • Ensure that the perspectives and experiences of everyday Angelenos inform the City's CIP;

  • Advocate for clarity, transparency, and accountability in the City’s development and execution of the CIP; and

  • Build an ecosystem of support of residents, community leaders, and elected officials for community-driven priorities in the CIP.

Dig in with our community members to learn more about the CIP process and how YOU can play a role in its development and final product, no policy experience required! If you'd like to learn more before getting involved, check out the teach-ins below.
