Energy 101 - Climate Team

Are you interested in participating in our Renewable Energy team's actions? Would you like to submit informed comments to LADWP and other agencies about the transition away from fossil fuels? Do you have basic questions about how the electricity grid works? Then this is the perfect event for you!

Please join us for an informal teach-in presentation from LA Forward member Adam Green on the fundamentals of the electrical system. The intent is to educate our members who have little or no experience in the energy industry. This is a technical field that uses a lot of jargon, so a little education will go a long way!

Topics will include the following:

  • What is electricity, really?

  • How is electricity generated and transmitted today, and how is this changing?

  • How are utilities organized and regulated?

  • What are the positives and negatives of various renewable technologies?

  • What are some good strategies for interacting with utilities and regulators?

We will have an approximately 45 minute presentation followed by Q&A, and no question is too basic. Everyone is welcome!

Adam Green has worked in renewable energy for over 10 years, including at a large utility, at small startups, and at major clean energy development companies. He is currently an executive at a company developing large-scale battery storage systems for utilities, but this presentation represents his own personal opinions only.
